This blog is about my literary adventures in different genres. I like variety in my reading and will read books from most genres but particulary book with some literary merit.
Last night I finished my challenge "A Century of Books" at Goodreads (Click here to check it out): One year ago I challenged myself to read one book published each year of the 20th century plus one book published each year of the 21st century (until 2014 that is) plus one book published each decade of the 19th century. I tried to read these 125 books within one year and I made it!
I have to say, I'm a little proud of myself!
I usually read more than 125 books a year so the number wasn't the problem. The problem was that I'm a very moody reader. I made a plan before starting the challenge but of course didn't stick to it (that is, not until the last month). At first this worked out very well: I read from a very wide range of books from lots of genres anyway. But then it turned out that there were certain years (e.g. 1910) for which it proved very hard to find anything I thought I might enjoy. On the other hand there were certain years (e.g. 1938/39) for which I found 5 or 10 books of interest.
I read lots of interesting books this year but also some that I just forced myself through because I didn't find anything else for the correspondent year. Even though I had lots of fun I'm glad to finally be able to read something else again and also more modern titles.
